In the world where there is light,
Might be my loved ones lost in the plight,
Plight as they lost me to be never found,
Oh, I wonder what grief it would be when they saw I was not around….
It was a bright day; I was playing with my friend,
I saw someone coming to us from the other end…
He said he wanted to play with us, oh we were so happy to find a companion,
Later did we accompany him to a place, it looked lavish but as we reached, we were in oblivion…
Later when I did open my eyes,
It appeared to be a new place and looking at so many alike came my sighs…
My stomach needed food and water, it growled,
But then no one had anything, they too starved and howled…
The next day it was when people came,
They chose some of us and went again,
There were murmurs thereafter when I heard,
They have been sold to the good people were some of the words…
Many days passed since then,
I did not eat well I didn't know since when…
No one came and chose me to buy,
I assumed that was the only way I could survive and not die…
One day the big gate opened and there were people running in,
They appeared like soldiers with guns, seeing which fear in me was full up to brim…
They took us all in a bus,
There were many others and my sold companions too in the fuss…
There were marks on their body, Oh my, were they beaten I cried,
On asking, they were thrown into slavery and prostitution, they sighed…
All in the moment I was taken aback,
I thanked the good lord but suddenly got frightened of the men with guns, is this yet another hijack?
After some time, the door of bus threw open,
The soldiers took us and there were my people and they were in tears, broken…
I ran to my mother and hugged her tight,
She held me close as I realized soldiers were angels who helped us unite…
Today after many years,
The memories of those days are still afresh and bring me tears…
There might be many like me there, my heart aches,
Not many would find someone who fights for their sake...
So, I write this to you, my friend,
Let’s be angels too and unite so that we can bring this to an end…
very nice poem
